Welcome to the first of hopefully many more blog posts where I look to discuss a wide range of topics ranging from travel, current affairs, sport, self-development, finance, dating, fitness just to name a few. Why Sivota you wonder? full disclosure this place holds a very special place in my heart, and this is a big driving force behind writing this post as I want others to discover the joy of this gem. Sivota is a village in the municipality of Igoumenitsa looking over at the island of Corfu. What led me to Sivota in the first place was not by holidaying but my days of being a tennis coach for Neilson Holidays. After a successful first summer season as a coach based in Lesvos (Greece) I was offered the opportunity to be a head coach in Sivota, I was delighted by this as Sivota was my number one pick on an end of season staff questionnaire which we had to complete at the end of my time in Lesvos, detailing where we would like to work next if we were offered employment again. I was sold a dream by fellow seasonaires and a former coach who previously worked in Sivota just how great a place it was, and the dream did not disappoint, albeit needing to walk up a hill every day to reach the luxurious Sivota retreat hotel. Nonetheless I learned to embrace it as a good start to the day and a character building experience.

For those who are not as accustomed to some of the more well-known finer things in Greece, such as the food, the beautiful surroundings, the history, Greek mythology just to name a few, I strongly advise you to do some research, however for the sake of this post, I am going to stay on point and dive straight in. Speaking of diving straight in, Sivota during summer means you’re diving straight into warm crystal-clear blue seas, exploring a host of awesome beaches and being taken back by the sheer beauty of the place. Let’s not forget the awesome waterfront bars, cafes and restaurants in the harbour and village square which is vibrant at most times with a mix of guests from all the nearby hotels, villas and locals creating an international feeling around the place. In addition Sivota also attracts many sailors who moor up their boats/yachts in the port for an overnight or short stay, you cant blame them. Nightlife lovers, your in safe hands, with many good bars staying open until the early hours of the morning playing a range of different music depending where you go. I can say I spent many an evening in Barracuda Bar enjoying life with friends and drinking one too many Mythos.

Sivota Sunset 2012

Rewinding back to my first memory of Sivota, I was asleep on the coach trip from the ferry port, and what I woke up too will stick long in the memory, I had woken up a short time before we reached our destination and I’ll never forget the views on the coastal roads on the way in, I later got to experience some other sunsets riding some of the coastal roads on mopeds with friends, but the journey in was simply delightful and something I would encourage you to experience at least once. If you’re partial to day trips and excursions which typically include scenic routes and beautiful scenery, you can also look no further. In Sivota there is no shortage of places to go. Below is a list of places I HIGHLY recommend visiting if I do convince you to go, I also HIGHLY recommend a portable mobile phone power bank charging kit for such trips.

  • Parga
  • Paxos
  • Lakka
  • Glyki: Acheron River
  • Corfu
  • Blue Lagoon Beach
  • The Retreat Hotel

Happy Holidays
